You probably know how good is the music coming from Australia. Last year, we discovered the producer Lancelot, with his great EP “We Can Dance”, which was released on Binary, the label of Goldroom. For the release of his EP “You’ll Never Be Mine”, we asked him a few questions to get to know him better.
I’m probably not the first one to ask you this question… Why did you chose this name? Did you like the idea to associate your music with a famous character?
I guess I just really liked the imagery connected with it all. Plus my name is Lance. Go figure.
We discovered you with “We Can Dance”, which was released on Binary, the label of Goldroom, and remixed by him. How did you get in touch with him?
We sent it to a bunch of labels but Josh (Goldroom) was very excited which is important for me. To work with people who are really passionate about what they are releasing!
After this debut EP, that was a mix of house and nu-disco, you seemed to go more towards deep house productions. Did you feel the need to change your sound?
Well my Matt Corby remix was released before the Binary EP and that was ‘deep’ in a way. I don’t feel I’ve changed my sound – I’m just more aware of what I want to do now and have more experience and knowledge into what works in a club environment.
You just released the free EP “You’ll Never Be Mine”. Can you tell us more about it?
It is a homage EP to one of my favourite soul/funk bands The S.O.S. Band. More info on the Soundcloud link!
Do you appreciate the fact to produce music on your own? Would you like to collaborate with other artists in the future?
I love working by myself – I’m a bit of a control freak. I like collaborating with song writers and people who can help develop lyrical content.
When you’re not busy producing music, how do you spend your time?
I’m a full-time composer so I’m pretty much in my studio/cave all day everyday.
We know a lot of great artists from Australia, such as Flight Facilities, Flume, Rufus…
Are there some others, less known, that you would recommend us?
Polographia, Olympic Ayres and Elizabeth Rose.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions! We hope to see you play in Europe soon!
Thanks! We’ll be over in July for some shows in France. Let us know if there’s any parties near you we should be hitting up!
