Chromatics make a surprise comeback with the album “Closer To Grey”

This week, Chromatics surprised us with the release of their album “Closer To Grey“, the first new one in 7 years. It’s the follow up of “Kill For Love” that seems to replace “Dear Tommy“, that never came out since its announcement in 2014.

There has been a lot of hype around Chromatics since they were featured in Drive and Twin Peaks soundtracks. But you need to listen much more than this to get into the band’s universe. Mixing influences from electronic, synthpop, no-wave and more, the band has a unique and intimate sound signature.

This new album starts with the sound of a ticking clock, that reminds of one of their most famous songs. The cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence” is a great way to get into the album’s mood and rediscover Ruth’s delicate voice. The second song “You’re No Good” has a hypnotic mood. It seems to be the lead single, as it comes with a beautiful video clip.

Throughout the album, the tracks that really stroke my attention are “Closer To Grey“, whose intro reminds of The Cure; “Light As A Feather” with his slower tempo); “Move A Mountain“, for his minimalist style with a focus on vocals.
Take the time to sit back and listen to the full album, you won’t regret it!

Chromatics are currently on tour in Europe. We can’t wait to see them at Pitchfork Festival in Paris on November 1!

Closer To Grey” is out now via Italians Do It Better.
